Yet more Illustration!

This is my trainer from last weeks Illustration lesson with Jamie, I used the pen tool to create all the different shapes then layered them up bringing pieces to the front and back. I do like how it turned out but I never did any different colour ways.

In today's lesson as well as doing a PowerPoint presentation I also did a version of one of my favourite Illustrators work, Jason Brooks. I'm really pleased with how it turned out, (show on the left) all I did was use the pen tool and changed the stroke weight to make lines thicker or thinner and I'm pleased with the effects.

Y-3

This is my PowerPoint on a designer that inspires me and I chose Y-3 (Yohji Yamamoto) because I love his collections as they are sporty but really fashionable and smart due to the soft tailoring and fabric chooses. It's not the best Powerpoint in the world and I only put in different transitions just to prove that I could but I think they make things look cheap.

Melting Pot

Yesterday we got our new mini brief, called Melting Pot it's a five week project where we have to pick a culture to research about and design for!

I am quarter Hungarian so I have decided to look into their culture because I think it will be really interesting as I've never visited Hungary and our relatives rarely come over so it will be nice to learn about my heritage.

I'm not sure how I feel about this project yet but once I get into it I'm sure it will become a lot more interesting.

Illustrator

Last week in Illustrator I was playing about with the pen tool and I traced around an Adidas hoody, shown on the right:

I really like how it turned out, well except from the writing but I shall upload some different colour ways later on.

Construction

I've done a lot of construction before but I wasn't looking forward to our lesson on Thursday purely cause I had missed a lesson so was really behind, everyone has already cut out their bodice and sewn it up.
However I came in to the lesson and whilst everyone was getting on with the next steps I cut out my bodice, sewed it up, put the neck binding on and managed to get both my sleeves on.
I was really proud of myself because I had managed to get my head down and catch up and do more =]
I think having 2 years practice in construction really helped because it meant I could get on with it and I am really proud with how my bodice turned out.

That lesson showed me that the amount of work and effort you put in really shows in the outcome. If you have determination you can acheive anything.

Black & White

Yesterday we finished off our sketchbooks and creations and Im really pleased with how it turned out although I am going to add some more research to my sketchbook. I worked in a different way to how I usually work, I usually plan my work out so I have a clear idea of what Im doing but for this project I just went straight into doing my structure which worked out but I do prefer planning. Here is a picture of my garment although it is rough ->
I really like the use of origami as I have never done it before but I think it adds a nice effect to my piece.
If I was to re-do this I would of probably used more paper as I like the definition although I do like the difference between the harshness of the paper and the softness of the fabric.

Today in our lesson with Jamie we were learning more about Illustrator which
was good, but I did a rough illustration of my black and white structure, shown on the right, using a template to get the body shape and then I simply used the pen tool to create the shape of my garment.
I never used to like Illustrator at college but I think Im getting to grips with it now so I can test my boundaries.

Black & White!

Yesterday was a really good day, we have finally got a brief!! which is great but the downside is it's only a week long project =[

Using only the colours black and white we have to create a structured piece such as a hat, bodice, skirt etc, I started by doing a bit of research into some designers such as, Issey Miyake (shown opposite) who are known for their structured pieces by using pleats, ruffles etc!

I also looked into origami as I thought this would be an interesting way to create some volume.

We have to produce a sketchbook for next week looking at our research and we have to include images and drawing of our garment so we can see how it developed.

I will upload a picture of my garment later on!
I was really pleased with how it turned out, although I'm not looking forward to the presentation we have to give next Monday =/ =/ I need all the luck I can get for that on..

Illustrator!

Last week we had our first lesson in Illustrator which I wasn't looking forward to because I hate Illustrator!! but I didn't find it too bad because I had learnt some skills from my college course, we had to trace and fill in a picture of a diver, I added some bubbles and fishes to mine because I had finished early, this is my diver on the right ...

And then we had to put our diver through
a hoop but I added
two hoops and this is what it
looked like ...

I'm so pleased with how mine both turned out!!
And I am looking forward to more illustrator lessons and learning lots more skills.

Back To Photoshop!

Today we had to do a mood board using photoshop which I found easy cause I have had 2 years of experience with this program but it was good to refresh my memory on the shortcuts and tools =]
Much preferred doing a mood board on photoshop then doing it by hand in yesterday's lesson! I chose to do a military board this time, which is on the right, whereas yesterday I did a punk board (which I'll upload once I take a photo) but it was interesting to see the difference.

Because I finished my mood board I was playin around with some of the images I got off flickr commons and I create the image you see at the bottom. I was using the cloning tool and I really like the outcome.

Induction/ Freshers Week!

Okay already getting behind with this blog thing but thought I may as well do a quick post about the first two weeks before cracking on with the real deal!
It included alot of waiting around which was boring but good in the sense that we got to know people =] especially at the trip to Studland!

But now it's starting to get in the full swing of things so this course and the future is looking good...
